Mine is from Germany and is still going strong after about 8 years. However, my friends who use Korean Varta batteries see them last only 3-4 years. Is there a reason for this?

Curiously, I assume there are differences between Varta Korea and Germany AGM batteries in terms of longevity. Mine from Germany lasts much longer compared to Korean versions used by my friends. I believe the older Varta AGM batteries from Germany were manufactured under stricter conditions, which contributed to their extended lifespan. The Varta AGM Korea batteries, introduced after Johnson Controls acquired Varta, may have differing production standards.

When it comes to Johnson Controls' Korean AGM batteries, they might not meet the same high specifications as their German predecessors. These factors possibly contribute to their comparatively shorter lifespan but also make them more affordable.

If I were Varta, I'd ensure the batteries lasted longer than the warranty period but not excessively long, to sustain recurring business. It's noteworthy that Mercedes has switched to FIAMM from Varta as their OEM battery supplier.
