Court Flooring Material

What is court flooring made of? The answer to that question can tell you a lot about the flooring, like where to use is, how durable it is, and how easy it is to install and take care of. These are obviously all important factors, so keep your eye on the ball as you do your shopping.

Hard Plastic Flooring

All of our plastic court floorings is made from polypropylene. This type of plastic is impact resistant, chemical resistant, and holds color without fading. It thrives both indoors and outdoors.

Since the material is impact resistant and absorbs shock, you&#;ll notice increased support during jumpshots, running, and other moves that can be hard on the joints.

SHOP HARD PLASTIC COURT FLOORING

Vinyl Flooring

Our vinyl court planks are made of luxury vinyl that&#;s supported by a high impact polypropylene base. Vinyl court flooring is durable and versatile, designed for better airflow under the planks, and bolstered by a solid-top and quality finish that prevents potential dampness.

Our vinyl flooring comes with a beautiful maple wood-look top for an attractive, classic gym floor appearance. Note: vinyl court flooring is intended for indoor use only.

SHOP VINYL COURT FLOORING

Wood Flooring

When you want the look and feel of a traditional indoor court, wood flooring is the way to go. Our wood flooring is specifically designed to be easy to install, and you can even pull it up and reinstall elsewhere if desired.

Keep in mind that you can only use wood court flooring in an indoor setting. If you want to build a nice backyard court, plastic court tiles are the best solution for you.

How to Install Court Flooring

Installing court flooring is easy and simple to do on your own. Dedicated DIYers can get the job done in a matter of minutes. Whether you&#;re installing an indoor court or an outdoor court, the steps are the same.

Court Tile Installation

Note: These steps work with both indoor and outdoor court tiles, as well as peg and loop court planks.

  1. Make sure you&#;re starting with a clean, dry, and level surface.

  2. Begin at one corner of the court, placing the first tile with the peg sides facing outward, and both looped sides facing inward.

  3. To connect tiles, insert the pegs into the loops of an adjacent tile, and step down on the connected edges to snap them together.

  4. Work your way along the perimeter, creating an L shape along two adjacent sides. Leave a 3/4&#; gap between the tiles and any walls or obstacles, to leave room for expansion and contraction with temperature changes.

  5. Once two sides of the court are completed, continue to fill in the rest of the area until it is complete.

  6. If you have also purchased edge pieces, now is the time to install them. To install an edge piece, simply snap the pegs into the loops of the tiles. These pieces also come with attachable loops so you can secure them to the peg edge of a tile if necessary.

When you come up to an edge, wall or object, it&#;s easy to cut court tiles to fit. Just measure the area and cut the tiles with a tile cutter or table saw.

When trimming the tiles into place, make sure you leave about a 3/4&#; space between the tiles and the outside of the court or near a wall to allow for expansion and contraction of the floor.

Court Plank Installation

Note: These steps work with our two hardwood court planks from Junckers, Truplay Sports System and Trufit Hardwood System.

  1. Make sure the subfloor is level, clean, and dry. Install a vapor barrier if the installation area is at or below ground level.

  2. If recommended by the manufacturer, roll out a sports foam support layer perpendicular to the planned direction of the planks, and tape the rolls together.

  3. Begin installation by laying the planks face-down on the foam, parallel to the longest side of the room. Carefully hammer the included clips into the holes on the bottoms of the planks. These clips will connect to adjacent planks along the length of each plank.

  4. To connect the tongue and groove head joints of each plank, use adhesive in the joints. Stagger the plank head joints in a random pattern, leaving at least 18&#; between each joint on 6&#; planks, and 30&#; of space on 12&#; length planks.

  5. As you install, use spacers around the edges of the room to ensure the proper amount of space for expansion. For every 10&#; of width, add ¼&#; to the expansion gap on both sides.

  6. The very last row of planks should be glued to the adjacent row along the length. No other rows should be glued together along the length.

  7. Finally, remove the spacers around the edges of the floor and install the trim and transition strips.

Lining Your Court

Once you have your court installed, you might want the proper lines for whatever sport you will be playing on your court. While some premade court kits are complete with prepainted lines, you also have the option to grab one of our handy paint kits and feel like a pro athlete with your awesome, officially-lined court!

Design Your Own Court Flooring

How to Clean Court Flooring

Once your court is installed and being used, you might notice dirt or marks on your tiles or planks. To make sure you&#;re prepared to clean it up, let&#;s talk about how to clean and maintain your court flooring, indoors and outdoors.

Court Tile Cleaning and Maintenance

With court tiles, one of the many awesome features is how easy they are to clean and maintain. Made of hard plastic or vinyl, court tiles can be cleaned by simply sweeping or vacuuming any dirt or debris away.

Since court tiles simply snap and lock together, any damaged or severely dirty tiles can be pulled up and replaced. However, most indoor tiles can be cleaned with a manufacturer-recommended solvent to save you from having to pull it up or replace it.

If you have an outdoor court, your tiles are designed with drainage vents, so you can take a hose and a leaf blower to your court and allow the dirt and debris to wash away.

Court Plank Cleaning and Maintenance

Because some court planks are made of hardwood, there may be more steps to ensure your court planks are cared for properly.

First, using a microfiber dust mop, get rid of any crumbs, dust, or debris from the court, then check the floor for any scuff marks. To remove these marks, you can use a manufacturer-approved dissolvent, or a tennis ball to rub them away. Once this is done, you can move on to disinfecting.

Using excess water could cause damage to your court since court planks are made of hardwood. For that reason, it&#;s best to use a wrung-out mop/ microfiber cloth, or a cleaning machine and the manufacturer suggested cleaner. For the best results, you should clean the floor by walking along the length of the floorboards with your mop or machine.

The best frequency for cleaning depends on how often you intend to use your court flooring. It&#;s best to clean your court planks after every use.

With hardwood court flooring, there might occasionally be some spots that need to be re-lacquered. To keep the planks looking their best, you should sand down these areas and use a manufacturer-approved lacquer for spot repairs. Let these spots dry, then apply one additional coat of lacquer, then you&#;re done!

Conclusion

If you&#;re ready to get off the bench and onto the court, well, now you have a court you can actually play on!

Whether you&#;re decking out the best indoor basketball court ever, a backyard basketball court, or even your personal hockey practicing area, we&#;ve got the sports tile for you.

Easy to Assemble (DIY Installation)

One of the many benefits about this outdoor Multi-sport flooring kit is that the installation can be done with your own bare hands. We call it a &#;Do It Yourself&#; court floor because it does not require professional installation nor professional tools. The tiles have a four loop-to-peg interlocking system, snapping together with a single downward push just like a puzzle. Disassembling the tiles is just as easy as the installation.

Installation Tip: Although not required, you may wish to use a small plastic mallet and knee pads to further ease the installation process.

Traction Control Perforated Pattern Surface

The tiles are built with a traction control feature on the surface of the tile. This feature increases traction to prevent slipping or sliding while playing on the court. In addition, the tiles have a grid structure base that helps prevent the floating floor from slipping. This grid structure works well with rough concrete surfaces. The grid structure and perforated surface allow water to flow under the tiles and keeping the walking surface dryer. You can drive over the tiles, we suggest driving straight and avoiding turning the wheels on the court.

UV Stable Material

The Interlocking Perforated floor tiles used to build this outdoor court are UV stable and made for direct sunlight exposure. This makes the tiles resistant to fading. In addition, the custom painted lines have a UV protection coat that allow the lines to last for many years before needing to be re-touched.

Mold Resistant

These tiles are manufactured with small holes all over the surface and contain a grid structure underneath, to allow water and air to flow through the tile. This also allows water to drain out with a slight sloped concrete. High-impact polypropylene is a mold-resistant material which prevents microorganisms from developing.

Multi-Sport Pickleball/Basketball Court Flooring &#; Lines and Areas

The Pickleball court lines are painted based on the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) regulations. The lines are painted to the 2-inch standard. The names of all the lines featured on the Pickleball Court are listed below. Our basketball court floor kits are painted based on standard high school basketball court dimension (custom painted by request). Made to be a DIY project, this outdoor court is constructed using the 12 x 12-inch Interlocking perforated sport tiles.

  • Baselines &#; the lines parallel to the net at the end of each court
  • Sidelines &#; the lines perpendicular to the net on the side of each court
  • Non-Volley Lines &#; the lines on each side of the net between the sidelines and parallel to the net (According to USAPA these lines are located 7 feet (2.13 m) from the net)
  • Non-Volley Zone Area- the area of the court enclosed by the two sidelines, the non-volley line, and the net
  • Centerline &#; the line crossing the area between the non-volley line and the baseline on each side of the net
  • Service Courts- the areas on either side of the centerline, bounded by the non-volley line, the baseline, and the sideline

Please see the picture to the right for a visual demonstration of the lines and areas of the court. This specific Pickleball court floor kit may not be the exact size of your specific slab; therefore, you may request a custom size.

For further information regarding Pickleball court lines and areas, please visit https://www.usapa.org/court-diagram/

Custom Courts Available

These courts are made based off the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA). However, we do make custom courts as we know these dimensions are not suitable for all residential spaces. Customer options regarding this product are not limited to just one dimension. You are welcome to contact us via or with your custom court size. We can create any custom size with a 3 to 5-day turnaround time. Turnaround times do vary and can be longer during our busy season.

For custom court requests, we will need the following information from you:

  • Overall dimensions of the concrete slab
  • Color preferences
  • Line color preference (lines are done in white, but black is also available)

By request, we can customize the lines to fit your concrete slab dimensions and needs. If your concrete slab is large enough, we paint the lines based on the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA).

Subfloor Required

For the pickleball court subfloor, we recommend concrete slab or asphalt. The slab or asphalt will need to be perfectly flat and have a light broom finish. There should not be any imperfections such as vertical displacements, unevenness, or cracks on the floor; if it contains any imperfections you will experience dead spots. Also, if you have any concrete spacers it will need to be filled in, which a contractor can provide more detail on how to fill in the spacers. The USAPA does mention how modular court tiles are not recommended as a surface for pickleball courts because it will have inconsistencies with the ball bounce. Due note with Interlocking floor tiles you will not receive the maximum ball bounce. You may read more information on this with the link above or through research. Testing the tiles over your subfloor is suggested before making a court purchase, which can be done by buying a few tiles.

NOTE: We do not advise placing a pickleball court over compacted gravel, grass or dirt as it will be very difficult to get a perfectly flat surface without any imperfections.

If needing to know what kind of ball to use for your outdoor pickleball court, we suggest the ONIX brand and also the Penn QST 36. We have tested these ball bounces with our tiles and they work very well.

All product and company names are trademarks&#; or registered® trademarks of their respective holders. Use of them does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by them.

Easy to Clean

If sticky debris remains on the tile, it is advised to rinse off your court. Unlike other courts, the web-like design of the court flooring generally requires only one simple type of cleaning method using mild soap and water.  You may use a shop-vac to clean small debris. Routine cleaning will extend the life of the flooring.
