What's your go to PC parts store? - Hardware
I don’t have a single source for PC parts. My purchase process is a bit more complicated. I use a price comparison portal for Central Europe, called Geizhals . Their HQ is in Austria. But they have also subsidiaries and domains in a few other countries like UK , Poland , Germany and EU . I see many larger and smaller online shops of Central Europe integrated. Not every large and relevant PC online shop is integrated. They publish a list of shops that are integrated. Amazon is one of them.
For those parts I wanted so far, Amazon is seldom best supplier. Amazon has a shop in shop system. And this portal is sometimes offering me better conditions for the same shop in Amazon than for the same shop beyond Amazon, sometimes the revers. And paying options might differ too. And my preferred supplier as reported by that portal is one of the largest online shops (with a few physical stores over Central Europe) for full build PCs and laptops but is not as clear for PC parts where I end up often among about 5 other online shops. Online shops have different marketing options and agreements. Knowing about such policies and means helps in getting better deals.

I don’t have the volumes to get good deals directly of larger vendors. But talking with sales persons reveals that some smaller vendors may not have such constraints and may offer direct relations for their smaller more specialist equipment. And I see also the opposing trend. One specialist vendor was in direct contact with me and transferred contacts to some intermediate vendor about 16 months ago. Both were present at the fair were I was talking with them, at the same booth.
And that price comparison portal often allows me to do better filtering than many online shops. But depending on parts concerned, I need to enter a plain query. A query may reveal that not all concerned components are offered in the category of a filter combination but remained uncategorized. That happened the last time when I was looking for a modem. With filter combinations, the product list seemed to me a bit short. With a query, the list became larger.
So the aspects for the US market is similar to Central Europe. I can’t tell you the candidates for the US market as I’ve never been there. You didn’t mention your volume in order to estimate if direct vendor contacts should be expected better or worse than portals. And you didn’t mention any constraints imposed by the defined purchasing process of your organisation. As a small organisation, I just use the web interface and don’t need a specific portal integration.
And I receive the biweekly magazine ICT Channel with helpful articles, market info and ads. This magazine includes PC market, laptop market, PC component marked, but is not limited to these. That’s why it’s called ICT. And the term channel expresses that it is addressing medium sized organisations, not the small nor the large ones. One side-effect of pandemia is that also this publishing group got a new push for innovations. They also started some new portals recently. I’m not sure if they are part of a publishing house in the US. A quick business query didn’t report such links but reveals a financial investor in the back. So such relations may change more dynamically than with other owner structure. As far as I can see, they currently cover only Central Europe business market. I currently don’t see them expanding geographically but on market segments, media types, and business models. IDG would be a major competitor in the US.
